A woman and her fiancé chose to stay at the woman’s sister’s house while their home was being renovated. Throughout their stay, the woman witnessed firsthand her pregnant sister’s spouse’s lack of aid. Despite working more than 40 hours a week, the pregnant sister did all of the housework on her own. During Thanksgiving dinner, the woman planned to teach her brother-in-law a lesson.
In November 2021, an anonymous female Redditor submitted a moving story in the “AITA” topic. The woman, 24, told a story about her sister, 32, and her husband, 38, who exemplified weaponized stupidity. Despite working more than 40 hours per week, managing the household, and caring for their four children — 10F, 8M, 5M, and 3F — while pregnant, her sister’s husband made no contribution.
The woman was astounded that her sister got up at 4 a.m., prepared breakfast and chores, and got the kids ready for school, all while her husband stayed at home, worked, and played video games after she picked up the kids. Notably, the woman stated that her sister earns more than her husband.
What Happened When OP and Her Fiancé Visited Her Sister? The woman and her fiancé, 26, had to stay at her sister’s house for six weeks while their home was being renovated. Because the pair worked from home, they were able to offer assistance, which made the woman’s sister happy and relieved.
He claimed the incident had turned him into the family’s laughingstock. The woman assisted her sister with the children, and her fiancé even drove her to doctor’s appointments. The husband, on the other hand, only acknowledged his parenting role when his family was present, portraying himself as a God-fearing and diligent father of five children.
A terrified young child hears her parents arguing in the background. OP revealed that she had never gotten along with her brother-in-law and that his conduct had continued since his eight-year-old kid was born. Despite her sister’s attempts to discuss the possibility of leaving, she was adamant and worried that her children would grow up in a broken household.
Her viewpoint on divorce differed from the OP’s because her own experience with their parents’ divorce was significantly different. She believed that her children required both their mothers and fathers and was hesitant to contemplate the potential benefits of divorce given her circumstances.
The weekend before OP revealed her Reddit account, her sister and brother-in-law hosted a pre-Thanksgiving potluck for both of their families. OP had remained with her sister a few days before, anticipating her brother-in-law’s lack of assistance. OP mentioned at dinner that she and her fiancé were attempting to start a family.
Her BIL then made a “off-handed comment” to the woman’s fiancé about the difficulties of fatherhood. The woman was triggered by this comment, forcing her to respond, “[Like] you would know.”He was taken aback by her remark, and she vented her rage, calling him a pitiful excuse for a man who had left her 8-month pregnant sister to handle everything for their family.
OP spoke passionately for about ten minutes, making her BIL obviously uncomfortable on his seat. She then walked away from the situation. Later that night, OP received a phone call from her sister, who thanked her for sticking up for her and expressed gratitude for her assistance.
The next day, however, OP received a scathing note from her BIL, accusing her of being a horrible person. According to him, her alleged deception in front of his family enraged his mother, who chose to move in with them to help her sister.
He claimed the incident had turned him into the family’s laughingstock. Regardless of his point of view, he was certain that she was to blame for the results. After everything that had happened, OP couldn’t help but wonder whether she had made a mistake in pointing out her BIL’s suspicious behavior.
