He’s the heir to the British throne and has faced many challenges in his life – the majority of them in the public eye – but Prince William is likely to be “rather bewildered” by Kate Middleton’s admission to hospital last week.
At the time of writing it’s been a week since Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton had undergone an abdominal procedure that would see her remain hospitalized for up to 14 days.
Needless to say the reaction from royal fans worldwide was one of concern, though the Palace’s statement claimed that Kate was doing well and that her procedure had been planned.
“Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery. The surgery was successful and it is expected she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter,” the statement from Kensington Palace on its social media pages.
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”
The statement continued: “Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share. The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
Once discharged from the hospital, the Princess of Wales is expected to recover at her family home in Windsor, where she and Prince William relocated to in 2022 from Adelaide Cottage in London.
While Kate is recovering, it’s understood that Prince William will cut down on his public engagements. This to better help take care of the couple’s three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
According to the Daily Mirror, William has cleared his diary of official visits and is taking a temporary step back from his royal role. Yet one royal expert claims the prince will be feeling the strain of taking care of things without Kate by his side.
Speaking to OK! magazine, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: “He’ll be feeling emotional, stressed and probably rather bewildered by this sudden turn of events.
“You can have every privilege in life but your health is paramount and beyond your control. William will certainly be there for the children. They want to keep things as normal as possible, so I’d expect William will be doing the school run, helping with homework, cooking and doing the bedtime routine.”
Here’s to wishing Kate well with her recovery! We can only imagine how concerned Prince William must be.
