Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 3/4 cup finely crushed saltine cracker crumbs

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 5×9 inch loaf pan.
  2. Create the Glaze: Press the brown sugar into the bottom of the prepared loaf pan. Spread the ketchup over the brown sugar. This layer will caramelize beautifully and offer a sweet glaze to the bottom of the meatloaf.
  3. Mix the Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, milk, eggs, salt, pepper, chopped onion, ginger, and cracker crumbs. Mix thoroughly until all the ingredients are well blended.
  4. Shape the Meatloaf: Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it carefully over the ketchup layer in the pan.
  5. Bake: Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the juices run clear. The brown sugar and ketchup will create a delicious, sticky glaze as the meatloaf cooks.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Once cooked, let the meatloaf stand for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm, enjoying the unique combination of savory meatloaf with the sweet glaze
